Leo has set a record for the highest opening ever for an Indian film in the UK, driven solely by pre-sales.
The USA box office advance booking was on track until IMAX shows faced cancellation, impacting the premiere day numbers.
Reports indicate that IMAX copies of Leo are still in production, making it impossible to deliver them in time for the premiere. Refunds are being issued for already booked tickets.
Previously, Leo's premiere day bookings in the US reached $910K with around 40 thousand shows. With IMAX cancellations, current pre-sales are at $768K with 35K tickets.
Around 5,000 shows were dropped for the premiere. It remains to be seen if the IMAX version will be available from day 2 or over the weekend, potentially compensating for the losses on the opening day.
